PAC USB-GM1 USB Retention Cable

The item in my kit

I bought PAC USB-GM1 USB Retention Cable as part of my camper van equipment.

This cable is in my purchased electronics, alongside the wiring and connection hardware that accumulated during the conversion. The relevant planning question is whether to retain an existing port or create a new accessible USB connection.

Where it fits my build

On Day 104 I pulled the roof wiring through the PVC route with fish tape and brought the cable groups into the van. I fitted plastic trim around the roof opening where the wires passed through.

I also finished the remaining light-wire connections, fitted the junction-box covers, joined the remaining PVC sections and tightened the metal ties around the route.

My build notes

This stage pulled together several earlier sessions of drilling boxes, fitting glands and arranging the roof hardware. The final cable entry was the point where all those separate roof routes met.

My notes show how much of the work was physical organization: pulling cables, keeping entry points accessible and closing boxes after the connections were finished.

The route into the van was a layout problem as much as a wiring task.

Alternative products

Two alternatives to compare

The Duttek and TNP cables are alternatives for adding new flush-mounted USB sockets. They use a different approach from retaining a factory USB assembly, with a new mounting point and extension cables behind it.

This Duttek cable assembly places two USB sockets in a flush-mount fitting. Its extension leads route the sockets to USB connections behind the panel.

The TNP extension places two USB sockets in a flush-mount panel fitting. Its male-to-female cables extend USB connections to the selected mounting location.

My Day 104 notes record using fish tape to pull wires through the PVC route.

What do the photographs show?

They show the trimmed roof entry and the roof hardware at the end of that wiring session.
