My Build Diary

Ford Transit Tailpipe Paint

By · Project Diary

The tailpipe on my Transit was a soft black, almost dark gray. I wanted it closer to the black RAPTOR bedliner on the van.

Why I Painted It

The difference stood out to me when I looked along the lower edge of the van. The black RAPTOR bedliner had the darker look I wanted, so I decided to bring the tailpipe closer to that color with a flat black high-heat spray.

Cleaning the Tailpipe

I cleaned the tailpipe thoroughly with degreaser and a towel. I wiped down the area I planned to paint, then let it dry before I picked up the spray can.

The Flat Black Spray

Once the pipe was dry, I sprayed it with Rust-Oleum Automotive Flat Black High Heat Spray #248903. The video gives a closer look from underneath, where you can see the spray pass around the bend and along the exposed pipe.
