About this workshop reference

The PDF is headed 2023 Transit, section 501-36, Paint General Information, and titled Painting Plastic Parts. Its printed procedure revision is 05/7/2009. The vehicle heading, procedure revision and website publication date describe different things; none alone establishes that a coating system suits your particular part.

Record the part before selecting a finish

Give each item a separate entry in your build notes: its location, any moulded material marking, whether it is new or previously painted, and what you want the finished surface to do. A removable trim piece and a visible exterior component may raise different appearance and maintenance questions. Keep photos of the markings and existing finish beside the product information you collect.

For a previously coated part, record the existing finish. For a new part, retain the supplier’s description of the surface or primer. Keep the coating-system details with the project.

Use the linked PDF for the full archived discussion. Add your selected products, unanswered questions and next action to the van build decision log. If the finish is part of a larger interior project, keep its sequence and access requirements with your build cost record.
