Blue Sea 7187 100A Surface-Mount Breaker

The Blue Sea 7187 is the named 100A surface-mount breaker in my electrical drawings. I keep its 285-series identity separate from the other generic breaker symbols in the system.

Its role in my electrical system

I used the Blue Sea 100A breaker named in my original drawing. The manufacturer identifies the 7187 as a surface-mounted 285-series unit, matching the 100A component image in the source diagram.

The electrical build has several forms of distribution and protection hardware. A named breaker, a fuse and a bus bar each get a separate reference so the component list stays readable when following a branch through the drawing.

My build context

The breaker appears with the DC-load and distribution components in my system diagram. The wider build also includes the battery on/off switch, a Smart BatteryProtect and branch switching at the Nilight panel.

Those controls describe different functions. The on/off switch provides manual isolation, the BatteryProtect controls its load supply and the breaker provides its own switching and overcurrent function. Keeping their names visible makes the equipment pages easier to follow from the diagram.

My takeaway

My main comparison points are the breaker’s rating, mounting arrangement and terminals. The 7187’s 100A marking identifies the component; the word “surface-mount” explains the housing format.

A panel-mounted 187-series breaker changes the installation format even at the same nominal current. Another surface-mounted 100A breaker has its own body, terminal and mounting dimensions. I would compare those details alongside the rating when planning the space for the component.

A matching amp label is only one part of identifying a breaker; keep its series and mounting format too.

Two alternatives to compare

The Blue Sea 7044 keeps a 100A rating but changes to the panel-mounted 187-series format. The E9 100A option uses a surface-mounted body with a manual-reset control. Their housing, terminal and mounting details distinguish them from the 7187.
