REXBETI Metal File Set

I used hand files to finish the metal cuts around my passenger-seat platform. They filled the gap between rough cutting and fitting the custom cover.

Why I bought it

Cutting an opening was only part of the work under the passenger seat. I also needed to finish the edges after using the drill, reciprocating saw and grinder. The REXBETI set was among the tools I brought to that job.

A mix of file profiles made sense for a project with straight cuts, corners and smaller openings. My reason for having files in the kit was the detail work left after the powered tools had removed the metal.

How I used it in my camper van

I cut the seat-platform opening as part of the under-seat heater project. After removing the metal, I worked over the cuts with a metal file and sandpaper. The file stage came before fitting the black cover panels.

This was a close-quarters fabrication job. The cover had a front panel and triangular side pieces, so the edge work mattered where those pieces met the seat platform. Filing and sanding were separate finishing steps in that sequence.

My review

The useful role of the files in my build was finishing a cut that had already been made. I used powered tools for removal, then a hand file and sandpaper for the remaining edge work. That is the part of the job this set belongs to in my tool list.

My takeaway is to account for finishing tools alongside the saw and grinder. The opening did not become a finished panel location simply because the large piece of metal was out. The file and sandpaper were part of getting from a rough opening to the next fitting step.

The rough cut and the finished edge were two different stages of my metalwork.

Two alternatives to compare

The Nicholson set emphasizes general-purpose files in several lengths. The WORKPRO set concentrates on three larger profiles: flat, half-round and round. Those are useful differences to compare against the broader mix of larger and needle files in my REXBETI kit.

Questions from my build

Where did I use the files?

On the cut metal around the passenger-seat platform, followed by sandpaper.

Were the files my main cutting tool?

The drill, reciprocating saw and grinder made the opening. The hand file belonged to the finishing stage.
