MYOYAY Coin-Pattern Rubber Mat

I cut rubber matting into a lining for my storage-bin drawer, then used spray adhesive, a roller, screws and washers to attach it to the base and sides.

Why I bought it

I was building a drawer to carry bins of tools, hardware and other supplies. I wanted a rubber lining between the bins and the timber assembly, with the aim of reducing noise and vibration.

The drawer was part of a storage system I laid out in SketchUp and worked on at home. Cutting the mat to the drawer, rather than using a ready-made tray, let me line the base and make shorter pieces for the sides.

How I used it in my camper van

I measured the drawer and cut the rubber mat with scissors. After cleaning the wood, I sprayed adhesive in sections and used a roller to help press the lining into place.

I also attached the mat mechanically. Screws and flat washers held it to the timber frame and the base panel. I repeated the process with shorter pieces around the drawer sides; the photographs show both the lining and a close-up of a fastener.

My review

The useful part of this material in my build was how it could be divided into a base lining and separate side strips. It became part of the drawer assembly through a combination of adhesive and visible screw-and-washer attachments.

The fastener detail matters to my review because it shows how I actually attached the mat. The work involved measuring, cutting, cleaning, rolling and fastening, with each section fitted to the drawer I had made.

I treated the rubber as a fitted drawer lining, with separate pieces for the base and sides.

Alternative products

Two alternatives to compare

TUFFIOM uses PVC and a diamond pattern, while the Rubber-Cal option uses rubber with a diamond-plate texture. Material, texture and the size of the blank are the useful differences to compare with the coin-pattern roll I cut for my drawer.

This PVC flooring roll has a raised diamond pattern for utility and garage surfaces. It offers a different surface texture and material from coin-pattern rubber matting.
