Cut-off wheels were in my fabrication kit for the metal-opening and roof-bracket work. The jobs involved a mix of cutting, fitting and finishing around existing van components.

Why I bought it
The floor opening and roof-mounted equipment both required metalwork. I included DEWALT DW8062 cut-off wheels alongside the angle grinder used during those projects.
The discs were the cutting consumables in that group of tools. The drill, saw, grinder, files and sandpaper each had different places in turning a marked opening or bracket blank into a fitted part.
How I used it in my camper van
For the floor opening, I marked the rectangle, drilled starting access and used the drill, reciprocating saw and grinder as the opening was made. Filing and sanding followed the removal work.
The roof-mount project brought more cutting and fitting around aluminum stock, brackets and fasteners. My notes describe deciding to buy shorter bolts after repeatedly shortening the ones I had while fitting the camera mount.

My review
The useful context for these wheels in my build is the amount of fitting around the cut. Removing metal was followed by checking the part, adjusting the hardware and finishing the edges.
The bolt-length note was a practical lesson from that work. Choosing a better hardware length for the next session reduced the need to keep modifying each bolt as the mount came together.
The fitting work led me to plan shorter bolts instead of repeatedly shortening the hardware I had.
Alternative products
Two alternatives to compare
The Diablo alternative uses a diamond-bearing metal-cutting rim. The Norton option uses bonded abrasive cut-off wheels. Their wheel construction is the key difference to compare with the conventional DEWALT cut-off discs in my tool list.
Diablo Diamond Metal Cut-Off Disc
This diamond metal-cutting disc uses a diamond-bearing rim rather than a conventional bonded abrasive edge. It provides a different wheel construction for metal-cutting work.
These abrasive cut-off wheels are made for metal-cutting work with an angle grinder. Their bonded-wheel format offers another consumable option for trimming metal parts.
