Sealproof Single-Gang Electrical Box

I used small metal junction boxes along the roof-conduit route. Drilling cable entries, adding glands and fitting PVC connectors were all part of assembling them.

Why I bought it

The roof wiring brought together light leads, camera cables and pipe sections at several points around the rack. I needed boxes at those connection points, and the Sealproof single-gang box appeared in my materials list.

The small boxes had a different role from the larger enclosure where the roof routes gathered before entering the van. They sat along the individual runs, with fittings arranged around each location.

How I used it in my camper van

I put the metal boxes together, drilled openings for glands and ran wires through them. I cut PVC sections to the layout and connected them to the boxes as the route developed.

Later work included drilling the passenger-front box, installing threaded PVC connectors and running its wires toward the large junction box. I added covers as parts of the route were assembled. The photos show a small metal box and its cable-entry fittings beside the rack.

My review

The useful part of the single-gang format in my build was having a compact connection point along the route. Each box still needed its own arrangement of entries, fittings and wires.

The diary shows that assembly happening over several sessions. Fitting the box was connected to deciding where the pipe went and how the individual leads entered, so I worked on those pieces together.

The box, pipe connections and cable entries had to be arranged together at each roof location.
