Hotop M5 Hammer-Head T-Nuts

The small T-nuts in my 2020 extrusion moved and spun while I tried to start the bolts. I used a thin Allen key to fish them into position during the light-bar mounting work.

Why I bought it

The light-bar assembly connected added 2020 extrusion to the existing roof rack. The two profiles used different nuts and bolts, so they brought different assembly problems.

The M5 hammer-head T-nuts were included in my materials for the smaller extrusion. I could drop those nuts into the channel, unlike the slide-in nuts used at the existing rack.

How I used it in my camper van

I joined the extrusion with short drilled mounts, using M5 hardware on the 2020 side. The nuts in that channel moved and spun while I tried to screw the bolts into them.

I used the thin bars of an Allen key to reposition the nuts. My notes describe the process as time consuming, even though inserting the small nuts did not require sliding them in from the end.

My review

The advantage during assembly was being able to insert a nut into the smaller extrusion channel. The frustrating part was holding its position long enough to start the bolt.

That was a different problem from the larger rack nuts, where I had to undo bolts to slide another nut into the channel. The build made the insertion method and the bolt-starting step feel like two separate decisions.

Dropping a nut into the channel was convenient; lining it up with the bolt still took time.

Alternative products

Two alternatives to compare

The QIJINTRID option uses a sliding-nut profile; the HOZEON option uses a rounded roll-in shape with a spring-loaded design. Those mechanisms differ from the hammer-head nuts in my materials. Insertion method and position control are directly relevant to the assembly problem I encountered.

These M5 sliding T-nuts provide threaded attachment points for 2020-series extrusion. Their sliding-nut shape offers a different insertion arrangement from a hammer-head nut.
