IXGNIJ 2020 Aluminum Extrusion

I used added 2020 extrusion above the roof rack to support the light-bar mounting position. Joining the smaller profile to the existing rack meant working with two different hardware systems.

Why I bought it

The existing rack did not put the light bar where I wanted it. I added a separate extrusion beam above it so the light could angle downward.

The black IXGNIJ 2020 profiles were listed in the materials for this work. The slotted shape gave me attachment points along the beam for the connectors and lamp.

How I used it in my camper van

I cut a 58-inch extrusion piece with the miter saw. I then made three short drilled mounts to join it to the existing rack, with quarter-inch hardware on the rack side and M5 bolts on the smaller extrusion.

During fitting, the small T-nuts moved and spun in the channel. I used the thin bars of an Allen key to reposition them while starting the bolts. The following roof sessions continued with extrusion fitting around the other equipment.

My review

The slotted beam let me arrange several attachment points along the same piece. The time-consuming part was getting the small nuts lined up with the bolts.

The larger rack nuts created a different problem: they had to slide in through an opening, which meant undoing bolts I had already tightened. Working with both profiles showed how much the hardware insertion method affects assembly order.

The extrusion profile and its T-nuts had to be planned together with the order of assembly.

Alternative products

Two alternatives to compare

The ZYLtech stock uses a 2020 T-slot profile, while the SeekLiny stock uses a 2020 V-slot profile. Both are supplied in one-meter lengths, shorter than the two-meter stock in my materials. Length and slot geometry are the main differences for planning cuts and selecting the associated hardware.
