I fitted plastic edge trim around the roof opening where the wires entered the van. This U-shaped edge guard was listed with the materials for that wire-entry work.
Plastic trim fitted around the roof opening where my wires enter the van.
Why I bought it
The roof route gathered at a large box above the opening into the van. The edge of that opening needed its own finishing step as I brought the wires through.
The U-shaped edge guard was a different product from the L-shaped trim on my passenger-seat cover. Its role here was covering the cut edge around the roof wire entry.
How I used it in my camper van
I ran wires through the roof opening and installed plastic trim around the hole. The close-up photograph shows the trim at that entry beneath the larger wiring enclosure.
I continued pulling the wires through the PVC route, added a cable gland and finished the remaining connections. The entry trim was installed as part of bringing the cables into the van.
My review
This small material had a specific location in the project: the perimeter of the roof opening. The close-up records that detail more clearly than a wider photograph of the whole rack.
The opening, trim, cable fittings and enclosure were separate parts of the entry arrangement. I fitted them as the wiring route reached the inside of the van.
The roof wire entry included an edge-finishing task as well as the boxes and cable fittings.
Alternative products
Two alternatives to compare
Winunite uses a gripping U-shaped guard, while the Trim-Lok product uses a neoprene profile with pre-applied adhesive and a taller leg. Profile shape and attachment method distinguish these options. The finished opening in my photograph shows the kind of edge detail involved in my project.
Winunite U-Shaped Edge Guard
This flexible black edge guard uses a U-shaped gripping profile. Its continuous length can be divided into pieces for covering exposed edges.
This black neoprene edge trim uses a U-shaped profile with pre-applied adhesive. Its taller leg profile provides another shape for covering an exposed material edge.
