Why I bought it

The roof-wiring stage included both joining wire ends and covering sections where stripping had exposed wire. The DCE530B cordless heat gun was listed in my tools for that project.

I was working around the rack, conduit and junction boxes. The heat gun belonged to the connection and covering work that followed routing the cables.

How I used it in my camper van

The diary records using a heat gun when making solder-seal connections on the LED-light wires. On the final day of the roof-wiring stage, I also used tubing and the heat gun over sections exposed during stripping.

That day included pulling wires with fish tape, adding a camera gland, completing the last light connection and covering the junction boxes. The photograph shows the heat-gun and wire-covering work within that sequence.

My review

The useful role of the heat gun in my build was serving two related finishing tasks: the connection sleeves and the additional tubing. It was part of getting the wiring ready for the boxes to be closed.

The work around it still involved routing, fitting entries and completing pipe joints. My experience places the heat gun at the wire-connection and covering stage of that larger roof project.

The heat gun supported both the connection sleeves and the additional wire-covering work.

Two alternatives to compare

The BLACK+DECKER HG1300 uses mains power and two heat settings. The SEEKONE option also uses mains power, with adjustable temperature and airflow controls. Both change the power arrangement from the cordless DEWALT tool in my kit.
